3 million ways we’re tackling the biggest challenge in logistics

Of all industries wanting to go green, logistics is among those facing the greatest challenge.

By its very nature, our industry places strain on our planet as a result of the carbon dioxide used to transport products across counties and continents. But we’re doing all we can to facedown this tremendous challenge head on.

Our European intermodal service takes trucks off the road and reduces their involvement to final-mile deliveries. Thanks to the GTS Group’s very own rail network, goods traverse the continent from as far south as the port of Bari, Italy where products transition from ship to rail. From there, the service runs north with stops in the likes of Piacenza or even direct to the ports of Rotterdam and Zeebrugge then linking with UK by ferry.

And to further reduce our carbon output, we’re due to take delivery of 20 brand new electric locomotives early next year. The Traxx DC3 trains will arrive in Bari before beginning their cross-Europe journeys delivering goods to the UK.

Similarly, the launch of GTS Iberia means there are exciting developments planned to expand GTS’ rail services into Iberia - connecting both Italian and UK markets.

Reducing carbon emissions is great but how much of a difference is our approach making? We have the answer – and it shows our commitment to making strides towards a more sustainable future for logistics.

Since the start of the year, our GTS UK customers alone making use of our intermodal service have saved more than 3,000,000kg of CO2!

And that’s just the start of the benefits of going intermodal with GTS.

Using rail instead of road also improves:

  • Stability of rates

  • Reliability

  • Congestion on the roads

  • Air quality

  • Accident prevalence

We’re making huge strides in our green journey and we can’t wait to give you more updates as time moves on. Keep your eyes peeled to our website and social media channels for more!
