Q&A with our Customs Broker, Tatiana

What does a Customs Broker do? Find out all about life in the customs department first-hand from our Customs Broker, Tatiana, who joined the team back in July 2020.

Can you describe your role as Customs Broker?

‘I ensure customers’ goods are cleared for export / import on time and reliably.

How did you get into the industry?

‘After graduation I started working for the main shipper in Hull – P&O Ferries as an Operations Customer Assistant. It was my responsibility in this role to arrange the bookings to ship containers, trailers, and lift tanks on the ferries. Once I had good experience, I started working in the gatehouse checking in and checking out units. I quickly realised I wanted to grow within the industry, so I applied for this position with GTS Logistics.’

What have you learnt during your time with GTS?

‘So much! The first thing I needed to learn was the whole process of intermodal: what it is and what is involved. Then I got to grips with the ins and outs of customs clearance which I now specialise in. It’s also been crucial to learn all about Brexit: the measurements, rules, and changes.’

Why are you passionate about the industry?

‘I’ve always been interested in logistics, I love how it changes every day and no day is the same. There's so many aspects involved, it truly is fascinating!’

What are you most proud of about the service you deliver to customers?

‘We are professionals at what we do, we always put our customers first and provide them with the highest level of service.’

What do you enjoy most about working at GTS?

‘I love being part of the team! Everyone is so nice, friendly and understanding - you can speak to anyone about anything.’

What are you most looking forward to in your career?

‘I’m looking forward to the growth: with my own experience as well as growing the customs department and becoming the UK’s go-to customs agency.’
