Q&A with our Customs Broker, Bethany Thompson

Bethany is one of the newest faces at GTS and here she tells all about her career to date and why she loves being part of the team.

Can you tell us a little bit about your role?

I work alongside Gabrielle and Tatiana as part of the GTS customs team. Customs is a key focus of the business and involves us making customs clearances for imports and exports into and out of the UK.

What previous experience do you have in customs and how did you get into the industry?

This isn’t my first role in customs. Before I joined GTS, I worked on behalf of HMRC, supporting traders in Northern Ireland with their import and export declarations.

The movement of goods between Northern Ireland and the rest of Great Britain has been in the news a lot recently – and over the last few years – so this was an invaluable opportunity to develop skills which I can now apply to this business.

Why are you passionate about the industry?

As the customs industry is constantly changing, traders always require our help to create a smooth transaction, whether that be as an importer or an exporter.

Being able to utilise this knowledge and help the customers who rely on us keep their businesses moving gives me real job satisfaction and leaves me feeling fulfilled in my work.

What attracted you to a role at GTS?

GTS is a growing company that offers lots of career progression opportunities in the workplace with an amazing ethos.

While not everyone in the industry knows much about what we do, they soon will. I was immediately amazed by the knowledge and expertise within our team from the moment I joined, and I can’t wait to continue to develop alongside my brilliant colleagues.

Looking further ahead, what are you most looking forward to in your career?

It’s all about new experiences and developing to become the best that I can be. Learning new skills and expanding my knowledge in the industry is my focus – and I feel incredibly fortunate to be doing it here at GTS.
