Q&A with our Country Manager Iberia, Sergi

Sergi Gómez Casas has been leading GTS Logistics Iberia since its launch last June. Read on to find out all about his role and background.

Can you tell me about the key responsibilities of your role?

I have been tasked with creating our new subsidiary in Tarragona, Spain, which widens the GTS network across Iberia. One of my key responsibilities is developing new business into and out of Spain and Portugal, giving them access to the British, Italian and Benelux (Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg) markets.

On a medium-term basis, I will be developing provision of our own trains to connect to the rest of our network and, in the shorter term, I am working alongside sea and air freight providers to give our new customers an instant solution to their logistics needs.

How did you get into the industry?

I have 30 years of experience in the transport sector having worked for international forwarding and intermodal transport companies. My first job was in a transport department for a metal producer which gave me my first break in the logistics industry when a supplier offered me a role in freight forwarding.

Why do you love working here so much?

I love my job because no two days are ever the same. You never know what will happen during the day. With our focus on sustainability, I also feel a responsibility towards my sons. I am working towards creating a more sustainable and healthier world for them to live in.

I also really enjoy working with our customers. Getting to know them, doing what we promised them, making them happy and helping them to grow their business with sustainable transport solutions, makes my career so rewarding.

What do you enjoy most about working at GTS?

It’s a cliche but GTS feels like more than a company. I feel like I am part of a family.

Everyone in the team trusts each other and we have freedom to bring ideas to the table. We have such a promising future thanks to the collaborative approach that Tony and the team has instilled.
